Release Date (UK): November 2014 |
The OnePlus One has been the biggest surprise of 2014: high end specs and excellent software with a mid-range price tag. For the most part, critics have been wowed by the performance; itâs fast, it has a big, beautiful, high-resolution screen, its camera is decent, and itâs incredible value for money. Some critics has noted occasionally buggy software, but for the most part, these issues have been forgivable in the grand scheme of things. The biggest problem the OnePlus One has is actually finding one to buy - OnePlus is a much smaller manufacturer than the Samsungs and Apples of the world and as a result, inventory has been very limited, causing much frustration amongst people keen to buy this. If entering lotteries and competitions in the hope of acquiring one isn't your cup of tea, then we'd recommend looking at the Honor 6, a similar mid-price-range and high-spec deivce. If you can get one however, you're unlkely to be dissapointed with your purchase.
What the critics say (scores are out of 100)
Digital Versus | Sofian Nouira It's hard not to like the OnePlus One. It's pretty close to perfect, and once you add price to the equation, it's a tough one to resist. The only problem is its by-invitation-only purchase scheme, which means you'll have to be patient-or lucky-to get one. Read full review |

Stuff | Sophie Charara But it really does have 'it' - that combination of good design, reliable performance and value for money. The Nexus 5 has it, so does the smaller Moto G. But now the OnePlus One has surpassed both and takes its place as the king of the budget flagships. Read full review |
|
Pocket-lint | Mike Lowe There are a few little issues, but nothing that should stop 99 per cent of people from buying one. It's just a pity actually obtaining one is such a pain - but that almost makes it a more alluring device. Read full review |

Australian PC World | Tony Ibrahim Arguably the OnePlus One is the coolest smartphone around. The 5.5in Android device runs refined CyanogenMod software...The real downside to this smartphone is its local availability; buying one requires an invitation. Otherwise, it dwarfs even the Nexus 5 on both value and performance. Read full review |

Gadgets Now | Anupam Saxena ... it is difficult not to recommend OnePlus One. It is not just a performance powerhorse with hardware specifications, but also a very well-rounded offering with equal emphasis on ergonomics and form factor. Read full review |
|
TechRadar | Jon Mundy The OnePlus One offers Samsung Galaxy S5 performance for less than half the price. If that doesn't make it attractive it also has a customisable OS and a 1080p display. There are a few downsides, but overall the OnePlus One is amazing value for money. Read full review |

Trusted Reviews | Andrew Williams The OnePlus One is not a perfect phone, but it competes with phones twice the price without serious caveats beyond limited 4G support. And for that reason, it's one of 2014's best phones. Read full review |
|
Engadget | Brad Molen It doesn't make sense that the OnePlus One should be this inexpensive. It looks elegant, feels solid and performs smoothly, and it doesn't show any signs that it's a first-generation product from an unknown company. Read full review |
|
PC Advisor | Matt Egan But at the price the OnePlus One is an amazing deal. It's a flagship smartphone for a mid-range price. Read full review |

Wired UK | Dave Oliver This is a seriously impressive phone, especially at this price. There may be a few bugs in the software, but we didn't come across any major issues, and in terms of capability, appearance and even distinctiveness, it's right up there with the best of them. Read full review |

Android Authority | Joshua Vergara We had a hard time finding anything to fault with the OnePlus One. Top of the line performance, great build quality, and arguably Cyanogen's finest work. Yet it remains elusive â for now. Read full review |

Mobile Syrup | Daniel Bader The OnePlus One is a remarkably good smartphone. With the OnePlus One, a user not only saves money on his or her monthly plan, but manages to avoid carrier pre-loads and slow software updates. Read full review |

NotebookCheck | Daniel Schmidt OnePlus delivers a really good smartphone with the One that calls itself Flagship Killer - and not without reason. We give a plus point for the outstanding performance-price ratio, which remains unmatched. Read full review |
|
YourTechExplained | Ben Schoon Overall, the OnePlus One is an awesome device. It doesn't try to do everything, but also doesn't compromise in many key areas. Read full review |
|
TechnoBuffalo | Brandon Russell When OnePlus calls the One a flagship killer, the company isn't exaggerating. It won't outsell any of the most popular Android devices around, and it won't take down Apple's mighty iPhone. But it will slowly win people over, like me, because of its fantastic design, great OS and bottom-dollar price. That's about all you can ask for in a handset, and I can't wait to see what OnePlus does next. It's just too bad actually getting the device is so darn hard. Read full review |

AndroidPit | Loie Favre OnePlus One is a top smartphone with a shamelessly low price. Read full review |
|
Know Your Mobile | Andrew Williams The OnePlus One is a great phone that sells at a frankly ridiculous price. We thought the Nexus 5 and LG G2 were good value â they still are â but the OnePlus One is on another level. Read full review |
|
Tom's Guide | Michael Andronico The OnePlus One is a gorgeous, powerful flagship phone that sells for a budget price. The handset's rich HD screen, sharp camera and stunning battery life all hold their own against popular phones. Read full review |

Recombu | Editorial Team If you can stomach getting in line to buy one of these phones â at present you need an invite and they're not too easy to come by â the OnePlus One is a real bargain. Read full review |
|
Neowin | Timi Cantisano Overall, this is a beautiful and powerful device, that runs an excellent build of Android created by the CyanogenMod team. Although it might not be perfect and better devices will undoubtedly emerge over the course of 2015, the OnePlus One will still have heavy appeal due to its value and its ability to hit the "sweet spot". I would feel confident in stating that this is the best Android device released in 2014. Read full review |

NDTV Gadgets | Jamshed Avari Calling this phone a "flagship killer" is an overstatement, but only a very, very tiny bit. It certainly has the goods in terms of specifications and raw power, and if that's your main concern then you can save a lot of money by forgetting about Samsung, HTC and Sony altogether. CNET UK | Aloysius Low Though it's one of this year's better Android phones on paper, the OnePlus One isn't for everyone, nor is it readily available. Read full review |
|
Digital Trends | Jeffrey Van Camp OnePlus One is a huge bargain on paper, but we don't recommend it. This phone is chock full of annoying bugs and issues, and customer service isn't up to par. Read full review |
