Pros: Waterproof and dustproof casing; Excellent battery, Good Camera; Good Speakers Cons: Fiddly protective flaps concealing the charging port and memory slot; Slippery glass back; Inaccurate screen colour reproduction Release Date (UK): September 2014 |
"With its tapered edges and rounded corners, the Xperia Z3 is the most comfortable Xperia flagship we've held so far," claimed PhoneArena.
Writing for The Guardian, Samuel Gibbs noted: "The phone feels solid, with little twist or bend in the frame, although I'm sure if you really tried you could bend it like an iPhone 6 with sufficient force."
PhoneArena raised some concerns about the rendition of colour, claiming that the screen looks "very, very cold, with abundant blueish or greenish overcast" as a result of the default colour tuning. This off-white setting can be corrected manually, but it may put keen photographers off the Sony Xperia Z3.
When it comes to video recording, the Sony Xperia Z3 captures footage in native 4K resolution, which is rapidly establishing itself as the format of choice for high-end smartphones. This handset also offers 120fps slow motion recording - perfect for when you need to capture a fast-moving subject.

The Guardian | Samuel Gibbs The Xperia Z3 is easily the best smartphone Sony has ever made and an improvement in feel and design over its predecessor. A worthy contender for the next six months with the great battery life making it one of the best smartphones currently available. Read full review |

Pocket-lint | Chris Hall The Z3 gives you the design, the power, the display, the camera and importantly, the battery life. It's the flagship device where Sony has got everything right. Read full review |

Stuff | Sophie Charara Sleeker, sexier and more capable than any Sony handset to date, the Z3 is the smartphone that proves Sony's formula - namely not to compromise on quality in any area. Not on screen. Or camera. Or battery life. Or audio. Read full review |

pocketnow | Anton D. Nagy It's got a powerful camera, a good-looking water- and dust-proof build, great screen, excellent performance, and is an all around capable device. Just like its predecessor, we think the Xperia Z3 is also "worth every penny." Read full review |

Gadgets Now | Ravi Sharma ...a pretty good smartphone, one that can easily give tough competition to smartphones like Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Alpha, HTC One (M8) and iPhone 6. Its slippery body is a concern, and the lack of any fancy features (such as fingerprint sensor, heart rate monitor or dual rear cameras) keeps it out of consideration of people who want a smartphone with something different...if price is not a consideration, then Xperia Z3 should be definitely in your list of probables. Australian PC World | Tony Ibrahim This is a no-frills smartphone that nails all the basics. We think it's an absolute beaut. Read full review |

TheEffect.Net | Tony The Xperia Z3 is an incremental update to the Z2 but still a worthy one. Read full review |
|
Phone Scoop | Eric M. Zeman The screen is great, the battery life is very good, but I thought signal and voice performance could be stronger. The hardware is, otherwise, top notch. Not every phone can claim to be waterproof and that definitely helps the Z3 sit apart from the crowd. Some potential buyers may not like the sealed-in battery, but I don't mind it. Read full review |

Neowin | Robbie Khan My time with the Z3 has shown that great battery life, stunning picture quality and flagship performance can be had from a smartphone that doesn't cost the Earth, and you can go about your day without having to percentage watch that battery meter. All in a sleek premium package that's both form and function to boot. Read full review |

The Inquirer | Lee Bell While it doesn't seem like very long ago that Sony released its last flagship device, and while it doesn't bring many updated features, the few it does offer make the Xperia Z3 is the best smartphone Sony has ever released, proving that the firm is getting better at developing good, sturdy and stylish smartphones that are built to last. |
PC Advisor | Chris Martin The Sony Xperia Z3 is undoubtedly a decent and desirable smartphone but Z2 owners will have little reason to upgrade unless PS4 Remote Play or High-Res audio are must-haves. In terms of the wider market, the Z3 is up there with the best and a solid choice even if it doesn't have the amount of bells and whistles which others do. Read full review |

Mobile Choice It looks very similar to its predecessors - and inside the specs are almost identical to the Z2 - but a thinner chassis, better heat management and improved battery life mean this could be third time lucky for Sony. Read full review |

Mobile Syrup | Daniel Bader It's hard not to love many aspects of the Xperias Z3s, despite the fact that it took Sony so many iterations to get here. They're the same great products with the same frustrating flaws. The Xperia Z3 and Z3 Compact are two of the best choices in a very crowded Android ecosystem. Read full review |
|
NotebookCheck | Daniel Schmidt Sony has created a really convincing device with the Xperia Z3 Compact. Only the case stability and the color accuracy of the panel are small issues. The latter is otherwise one of the best screens in this price range. Brightness, pixel density and contrast are on a really good level. Read full review |
|
Engadget | James Trew ... if you're currently in the market for a top-flight Android handset and are particularly interested in good battery life, this might be your best bet. Even if battery life isn't a priority, the Z3 is still worthy of your attention -- even if it's just because it's the dictionary definition of an all-rounder. Read full review |

Android Authority | Joshua Vergara We can't fault Sony for having faith in a product that already showed us what they were made of two versions ago, and we certainly can't blame them for continuing to make that experience even better. Read full review |

TechSpot | Tim Schiesser The Sony Xperia Z3 is a fantastic, well-balanced device that scores well in nearly every department. It may be just six months on from the launch of their previous flagship smartphone, but the upgrades certainly feel worth it. Read full review |
|
Brighthand | Dragan Petric The Xperia Z3 is attractive and powerful, with top-tier battery life, clever integration with the PS4, and a waterproof build that makes it almost as practical as it is pretty. Its rather hefty size and slightly shallow viewing angles hold it down to some extent, but all in all, this is Sony's best showing yet. Read full review |
|
TechnoBuffalo | Brandon Russell Sony might not have high hopes for its mobile future, but the company has made a winner in the Xperia Z3. The design is sophisticated, the camera is great, and battery life is excellent. The Z3 has earned its place among today's most popular flagships. You'd be missing out to skip the Z3 outright. The Verge | Vlad Savov The Xperia Z3 is categorically the most refined and best flagship phone that Sony's ever produced. It is attractive yet rugged, built out of better materials than the Galaxy S5, and also waterproof unlike the HTC One, LG G3, or iPhone 6. Read full review |

phoneArena | Daniel P At first read, one might scoff at the seemingly modest Xperia Z3 upgrades against its Z2 predecessor... but the cumulative effect is pretty powerful. Read full review |

TechRadar | Gareth Beavis An improvement over the Z2, but not a huge one. It does pack a great, bright screen but needs to be better packaged to fight the best on the market. Read full review |

Trusted Reviews | Michael Sawh This is the best Sony phone so far but for Z2 owners, it's worth waiting out for the Xperia Z4 or whatever Sony decides to call its next Xperia flagship smartphone where hopefully we should see something more radically different. Read full review |
|
Digital Versus | Romain Thuret The Xperia Z3 is a top-tier smartphone with solid performance, speed and versatility thanks to its software and multimedia services but there are still a couple hicks here and there that make it difficult for us to give the Z3 all five stars. All in all, there's no reason for Z2 owners to rush out and buy a Z3, unless they absolutely want Remote Play. Read full review |

V3 | Lee Bell Featuring a water resistant design, decent screen and offering great performance the Xperia Z3 is one of the best Android smartphones currently available Read full review |
|
Ubergizmo | Hubert Nguyen The Sony XPERIA Z3 is an excellent evolution of the XPERIA line, and it is fair to say that Sony has improved virtually every aspects of the remarkable XPERIA Z2 handset. With its size and overall positioning in the market, the XPERIA Z3 mainly competes with the Galaxy S5, the LG G3 and the iPhone 6, just to name the most popular models. Read full review |

Register Hardware | Alun Taylor With the arrival of the Xperia Z3, it's now becoming clearer what Sony's philosophy is regarding its flagship update programme: incremental changes every six months and evolution rather than revolution. As a result the Z3 is by some way the most refined Xperia flagship to date. Read full review |

NDTV Gadgets | Jamshed Avari Sony really has managed to improve a phone that was already pretty impressive. We enjoyed using the Z3, but we have a feeling that Sony's pricing and pace will make it easier and more sensible for a lot of people to keep themselves one step behind the curve. Read full review |
